Information-centric networking brings novel benefits of managing traditional networks by addressing content by names and exploiting in-network caching. Although it brings benefits of efficient content management, I am interested in knowing the challenges it may cause in managing traditional networks.
When moving from traditional IP networks to ICN new caching, routing security strategies should be conceived. Indeed, several research works focused on defining new data caching strategies for ICN networks. However, ICN has several advantages and is a very interesting paradigm for IoT networks.

the Internet is a Computer-centric Network and the information that can be accessed is identified through Uniform Resource Locators (URLs). The URL indicates from which host (as a web server) the desired information can be obtained.
About 10 years ago the ideas for the realization of Information Centric Networks (ICNs) were intensively developed. At that time, Content-Centric Networks (CCNs) or Named Data Networks (NDNs) were used as synonyms for ICNs. Almost all ideas from ICNs were protected by numerous patents even then. See for example the patent US 2013/0111063 A1 (2013) with the title “Routing Method in Content-Centric Network”. In ICNs, the content (information) is addressed by name and caching is used in the network.
The basic idea of ICNs is to "accommodate" the function of web cache servers in the routers belonging to the transport network and to expand the actual routers so that they implement so-called Content Routing. In CCNs, the newly designed Content Routers (CR) must be used instead of "normal" routers. When calling up the content, the CRs must be able to determine the best route in the ICN based on their name. Web Switching (and the use of Cookies) is no longer necessary in ICNs! The ideas of ICNs at that time are still not implemented today.
The use of URNs (Uniform Resource Names) in today's Internet is a replacement for ICNs. For this purpose, special Resolvers can be set up in the Arpa DNS domain. See my idea for ICN based services at:

@lamia Chaari Fourati thank you for the answer. Routing and caching security strategies are indeed required for the implementation of the future ICN. However, how can we implement these strategies on traditional networking hardware?
