I'm doing a master thesis on antenna and filters based on frequency selective surfaces theory. Please suggest new applications.
Some of the applications of FSS are: Isolation of unwanted and harmful radiation in microwave L-and S-bands in hospitals, schools, domestic environments. Selective shielding of frequencies in military and airport communication.
You can try to implement this thing on reconfigurable antennas or smart antennas as an application and performance

We are doing some research in FSSs for high power microwaves. We have already demonstrated our technology operating in multi-gigawatt beams. Our publication is in the review process now, but you can see some of the work here:

A new area we are pushing into is putting FSSs onto curved surfaces and spatially varying the geometry of the FSS to compensate.

I did work on dual band annular ring frequency selective surface,now these day multiband FSS are popular . you can also go for meta material basd FSS.
Research is going on several FSS based applications. In case of passive circuits, there are applications such as absorber, filter, transmitter/reflector, polarizer. In case of active circuit based FSS , tunable absorber, tunable filter are also good topics for research. FSS can also be used for radar cross section (RCS) reduction of antenna.
FSS aslo can be used as vehicle guided path, robotic and potential candidate for multiple 5G applications like for on-chip shielding
