What are possible solutions to the problem of insurgency in northern Nigeria?

Insurgency started in Nigeria when the for president, Shehu Musa Yar'adua clamped down on Boko Haram islamic sect known for propagation of extremist teaching that is against western education in Nigeria. Now, the sect has become a monster. Blood is shed without feelings, people are displaced, maimed and impoverished while business are shut down. Northern Nigeria has become a no-go arena for anything good today. What is the way out?
