World Economic Forum was recently hosted in Abuja, Nigeria. Many talks and presentations.One wonders how those talks would dovetail to economic progress in Nigeria taking into consideration that many NGOs have provided platforms similar to WEFA in the past with most of the issues similar to those raised at WEFA
The world economic forum is a talk shop. it is just a forum for policymakers, decision makers and power players to discuss issues of economic importance, not just to the host country but the broader region and the world. in essence, it is barely more than an opportunity for these players to network. so there is no real "mechanism" through which it improves the economy of the host country. any difference that the forum makes is down to the willingness of individual countries to implement the recommendation of the forum.
I did not notice this question until now, so my response may be too late to be of value. I agree with Zarema Akhmadiyeva and William Akoto and I would like to expand the sentiment that seems common in their answers.
It is my perception that two of the most challenging things to change are an individual's behavior and his or her thought process; moreover, this seems especially common among leaders. Perhaps we discount too much what those around us say or we do not listen as well as we could.
Opportunities to consider fresh ideas at something like the World Economic Forum can facilitate change, especially when good ideas seem to "catch-on" and the collective wisdom manifests itself in unmistakably positive ways.
Extending the previous answers, it also offers some measure of political cover to those involved in implementing the recommendation(s) that they are coming from a respected group, In addition, the will to accept and implement the recommendation(s) may have already gathered support that otherwise might not have developed without a forum.
This is an interesting question with two good answers; perhaps that is why was not a greater response.
