I have realized that some of my rabbits which are suckling young ones get paralyzed, whiles the young ones remain healthy. I have observed this on three occasions, and i am getting worried. Any possible causes and prevention? Thank you.
I really do not know but have heard about lactating cow can easily lose their whole body calcium storage and occasionally lead to fracture. Is it possible it happened to your nursing rabbits? Calcium and vitamin D deficit should be considered.
Thanks Ru-Jeng for the response. i am actually providing supplementary rations which i believe is quite high in vitamins and minerals. i recently slaughtered some of the paralysed does for organ evaluation, and everything seemed normal. The only odd observation made was the accumulation of clear liquid in the abdominal cavity. Any clue from this observation?
Does the livers look fine to you? However, liver failure is not a common cause of paralysis. But, what do you mean by paralysis? Were they just not moving in general or part of the body not moving? Do they even attempt to move?
Thanks once again Ru-Jeng Teng. The livers appeared normal in both texture and colour. The limbs of the animals were quite strong, but could not lift the head, unable to eat, and thus not move properly. The problem seemed to be with their inability to control the head/neck.
