Dear all,

If steel jacketing is used to retrofit a reinforced-concrete (RC) column, can we use it to improve flexural strength? I understand that we leave gaps between the ends of the jacket and ends of the column to prevent the bearing of the jacket on foundations, and thus we prevent an unintended increase in flexural strength.

However, is there a way steel jacketing can be used to directly increase the flexural strength of RC columns? like the effect of RC jackets? If so, could you please elaborate on the detailing?

Regards,

Karim
