Can be divided into 3 constitutes; microbiota research specific to the oral environment, microbiota research specific to periodontium (soft tissue and bone around the teeth), and last one microbiota involving in the dental pulp and periradicular tissues. the study methodology consists of isolation of microorganisms, antimicrobial sensitivity test. protocols for disinfection and treatment by different agents
Thank you for nice question. Are you talking about the sampling areas? If so, then I recommend the answer of Bestoon Faraj. If not, then I would like to share my views like what are the microbiomes and what is their rule in oral cavity?
If you think about targeted microbiome study using 16S rRNA sequencing, your area of target is limited to Bacteria only.
If are thinking about 18S ITS region sequencing, your target area is only Fungi.
Importantly, if you are thinking about shotgun/whole metagenome sequencing of the oral cavity samples like saliva, dental plaque, teeth root/pulp samples, you have a wider area of microbiome study. As for example, you can identify the microbial taxa (bacteria, viruses, archaea and fungi) at species/strain-level and their functional genomic features.
