It is not logic and rational thinking that will drive the shift to extremes in Finland, and for that matter in several other European states in which hard-liner politicians are playing with the emotions of their audience.

In the UK Nigel Farage played an important role in Brexit's wining, and his nationalist-fascist appeal to two  very unsatisfied segments - conservative and young Britons.

During his victory speech, among other emotionally charged words, Farage said: "This is a victory for ordinary people, for good people, for decent people. The people who’ve had enough of the merchant bankers... We will win this war. We will get our country back, we will get our independence back and we will get our borders back.” 

This is what the disappointed, jobless, frustrated British youth and countryside conservatives wished to hear, and this is a Hitlerian battle cry.

In my opinion, in the days to come we should pay very carefully attention to this factor, namely that extremists all around Europe using emotions to promote their separatist agendas of leaving the EU. And, as the current xenophobic climate in Europe indicates, they have high chances to succeed.

I wonder if Germany and France will be able to control the domino effect which the Britons started last Thursday.

yes, the dangerous button was pressed. Why is this happening? Young Finnish nationalists were in favour of leaving the EU in 2013. A little bit later young Ukrainian nationalists supported the overthrow of their President in order to accelerate the integration with the EU. Is the event itself important to the radical youth? Or the protest as a form of life is in the first place for them? Russian history teaches us that nihilists eventually turn into terrorists.

these explanations can also be truly: it's hard to argue with the truth. 

I am very anxious. I knew nothing about this youth movement, the True Finns. It is clear, that they had already started the exit-campaign in 2013, before Brexit-2016, but, as I now understand, immediately after January 2013, when Cameron promised that, should his Conservative Party win a parliamentary majority in 2015, he would negotiate more favourable arrangements for continuing British membership of the EU before holding a referendum on Brexit. Currently the True Finns (Perussuomalaiset) oppose themselves to the "new Finns" (uussuomalaiset), i.e. migrants. In other words, the explosive ideology of the movement is based on denying of a certain group (social and ethnic "strangers").

As a survivor of the collapse of my native country, I never wish anybody to have such an experience (despite the fact that it had a positive result personally for me). Those post-Perestroika years were full of troubles and could not be compensated (so I understand Eugene, who wrote about the meaninglessness of the state holiday in honor of the "liberation" of Russia from Belarus).

Finland and other countries can "get freedom" of the EU, but can they find the forces to control the protest energy of these young people? Everything depends on their leaders. What will await these countries in five years, when the youth movement will become elder and more sturdy? I understand well your feelings, dear Tom.

thank you for joining this dabate. I think, Colin means the political economic laws described in "The Capital" by Marx. But let us ask Colin himself. As a former Soviet student who had to study this "communist Bible" and Lenin's "Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism" in detail, I agree with Colin.

And as far as I remember, Roosevelt liked "The Capital", but it does not mean that he (Roosevelt) was a Marxist: the book describes the mechanism of surplus value.  

Finnish were attacking  refugees and migrants very heavily! That speak a lot about their attitude towards EU!

In my most humble opinion, free speech does have limits. Inciting hatred or any kind of discrimination is clearly a violence against human rights, thus toward democracy.
