I added a version of my article (as a preprint, though after review and confirmation of acceptance), which cites my previous article. But now, a published version is added separately, and a double citation is indicated by the article and preprint with the same doi! How to either fix this duplication or merge the article and the preprint? Don't want to delete the preprint, because somebody saved it.
It is not possible to merge these. I recommend to link the preprint and the final versions. See my replies to a similar question for details what to do: https://www.researchgate.net/post/How_can_I_remove_the_word_preprint_in_an_article_and_change_it_by_article. - Concerning the DOIs: The two versions must not have the same DOI. DOIs are always unique and apply to one file. Two file versions must have different DOIs. DOIs are identifiers for digital objects, not for publications, although they are often regarded as such.

thanks for your answer. You're right, the "preprint" I added and the published versions have different DOIs. I connected them, but still don't know how to remove the double-citing of other articles by them. Is there another way except for deleting the preprint?

The only way to remove the double citations would be to delete the preprint page completely. This way all "Reads" and other stats will be lost. It is not possible to edit or remove citations. These are identified and added automatically by an algorithm. I recommend to just keep both pages. The identifaction of citations by ResearchGate is rather inaccurate and incomplete, so that this duplication is only a minor problem among more significant ones like missing citations or completely wrong identifications.
