Hi People. Someone have information about wear of inserts that people use to machining polymers in turning and milling operations? Which are the principal differences with the wear of inserts that machining metals and why?
In our grinding / milling operations we use either glass filled teflon or pure teflon as our sacrificial insert and act as the journal bearing for rotating units.
Excuse me Sir, but clearly my english is very poor. I ask about the wear of the cutting edge of tool inserts than turning and / or milling polymers!!!!!
It is a greate difference between pure polymers and polymer composite materials.
If you ask about cutting pure polymers without reinforcing componets, the main difference in wear (comparing with metals) is increased chemical wear. Destructured in high temperature polymer is a chemically active agent wich destroy tool material.
If you ask about cutting reinforced polymers there are a lot of difference compared with metal cutting.
