does anyone know of simple open source easy to use qualitative coding software that would be good to try, needs to work for MAC and Windows. Also any input on experiences working with research volunteers would be great. How do they best thrive?

Please share lessons learned, I have looked at lots of research, done trial and error and really want for the public to be empowered through doing research in areas of interest to them as a complementary factor to research that is already taking place in other words integrative collaboration rather than alternative or splintered research community
