an optimum conceptual map should have sufficient nodes and number of links to ensure that this net achieved true and valid ways to tell us the subject(content). student- make maps  judged by experts to ensure the high correlation with the true and real maps of the content. check list or rating scale can be use full to evaluate the maps. also, we can develop some criteria to evaluate the maps according to our objectives.

Would anyone share their experience and curriculum in 'mathematical computing' both at the bachelors and at the graduate level? Who qualifies to teach in such a program,  computer scientists, mathematicians, statisticians? Thank you.

I'm afraid I was not clear... I'm not talking about conceptual maps created by students that I would need to assess.

Actually, I think we're close to knowledge engineering because as a cognitician, I've guided 6 experts-clinicians and we created a knowledge model to explicit the clinical reasoning process.

Looking at the legend (upper right corner), you'll see that we describe expertise using 3 sorts of knowledge units (cf: David Merrill and AJ Romiszowski) and 6 different links (borrowed from IA research). Syntax and grammar make this technique very powerful. 

We think that this model is robust and my question is: how can I go further and validate the model ? Which validation techniques would be efficient ?

I've looked at your suggestions about Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping. Some concepts may apply and it was very interesting to read these papers, but I don't think that we are in such an environment. 

Any suggestions ?
