It has been found that most of the reported method of estimation of patulin is though the route of derivatization in GC/MS. Derivatization has its own limitation and a time consuming process. In order to overcome this, our team is looking for solo GC-FID method of estimation of patulin. Any recommendation and references in this regards (in term of column and method) will be highly appreciated for the same.

You need to further study on the GC analytical technique. MSD and FID are just the detector to see your analyte. Your compound must be volatile to pass through the GC column before being detected. Therefore, you still need to derivatize patulin regardless of which detector you want to use. Detecting pure compound can be easy on both detectors. But you need selectivity of MSD to see patulin in the dirty sample matrix
Considering the non-volatility of patulin HPLC can be a possible and more simple approach. But probably you have already evaluate it. If not the case in Research Gate you can find several articles reporting it.
