With the uncertainty about the duration of Covid-19 immunity and variability of the agent, accurate monitoring of the epidemiological situation in real or near time can be of high importance for development of effective policy. A broad monitoring framework based on self-testing by the population combined with an effective reporting, data aggregation and analysis system was proposed:

with the potential to provide current, accurate and detailed information about the current situation.

At this time, self-testing options are available and in use in some jurisdictions.

In our view, community-enabled monitoring systems of this type can be a valuable tool in the epidemiological situation monitoring and analysis. A discussion, evaluation and options for development would all be of an interest.
