We also want to work with children from 6 to 15 years old and use "visual tasks" with them to study the meanings that they attribute to certain aspects of the structure and creation of their families. We know different tools for this purpose, such as posters, drawings or the family apple tree (Turner et al).

Crotti & Magni
The educationalist Evi Crotti and the psychotherapist Alberto Magni describe in their book "The secret language of children; interpreting children's drawings correctly" a test procedure in which children are given the following task: "Draw a family, which one doesn't matter. You are also welcome to use the colored pencils."
After the child has completed his or her work, he or she should be praised and then asked to tell something about the family he or she has drawn. Guiding questions for this could be: Of the people you drew, who is the (least) kindest/happiest/saddest? Which of the characters would you like to be? Even if it is not explicitly asked, the child always draws his or her own family.
Brem- Gräßer
the test procedure developed in 1995 by the psychologist Brem-Gräßer, the child is supposed to draw animals instead of actually existing people.
Burns & Kaufman
This test procedure focuses on the exploration of family interaction.
At the beginning, the child is asked to draw his or her family, and attention is paid to whether the child himself or herself also fits into the family group. This is followed by the Moving Family Drawing, in which the child is explicitly instructed to depict himself as well. (cf. DiLeo, 1992, p. 74).

"Today you get to paint something special. Earlier we talked about fairy tales that had transformations. Imagine that your family is a solar family. Draw all of you, including yourselves of course, as suns. Please number the order in which the suns are created. So the first one you make with 1, the second one with 2 and so on. And then don't forget to write down which of you is the sun you drew. And another surprise! If you want, you can color the suns. When someone is finished, he may bring the drawing to me." (Iten, 1980, p. 46f)
