Dear colleagues,

recently I´ve been working on solid-state preparation of ErFeO3 nanopowders. After the synthesis, the product was characterized by XRD, IR and SEM analysis. We got over 98% purity of the product and wanted further to test it for visible light photodecomposition of methylene blue. We used 400W halogen lamp and 420 nm cut-off filter (10-15 cm from the beaker). The catalyst (2g/L) was dispersed into the solution of MB (10 mg/L). The suspension was thoroughly stirred and the absorbance was measured after each 15 minutes. Surprisingly, no change in absorbance was observed even after one hour. From the UV-VIS spectra of ErFeO3 it seems that structure has a lot of defects. Can this be the reason why no catalytic effect is observed and the solution of MB stable even if illuminated by visible light?

Thanks in advance for all suggestions.
