Hi there,

In cloudy situations, current studies relating to the satellite data assimilation mostly focus on the infrared- and microwave-band data. Why are the visible- and near infrared-band data not used in the data assimilation process? As far as I know, they also represent some important cloud information, say, cloud optical thickness and effective radius are retrieved from the visible and near-infrared-band data. Could someone please give an explanation?

Kind regards,

Yongbo
