I am interested in methods to efficiently store large amounts of video data using as little memory as possible. The method could be very lossy. Can anyone help me find resources? How would you compare your method in terms of compression ratio and loss? Thank You!

It depends upon the application you are working. sometimes video compression is used for fast transmission purpose and sometimes for storage purpose.

I think both are dependent.
Like x264 gives the best h.264 compression both in terms of storage and real time video streaming.
