There has been a lot of writing about Verstehen versus Erklären, where the Versthen approach emphasises the emic understanding of the respondents and their lifeworlds, rather than looking at causal factors that explains human behaviouor.

But who has written about the subjective understanding of causation? Many respondents operate with an understanding of causation and perceive various phenomena in their lifeworld to behave according to causal principles.

I am in particular looking for more philosophical, sociological, or classic humanities' approaches to this phenomenon - ideally operationalised to actual studies. I guess that cognitive psychologists (like CBT practitioners) have written about this (please give suggestions too in this area).
