Dear Colleagues, I want to understand and determine scientific methods of analysing the effects of motor accidents on wildlife species whose habitat range across the highway road.
Three books: Forman Sperling et al. Road Ecology, Beckmann et al. Safe Passges, Andrews, Nanjappa and Riley Roads and Ecological Infrastructure and Van der Ree, Smith y Grilo Handbook of Road Ecology...... Those have a lot of references and are basic if you want to go into Road Ecology....
There are different types of protected areas. Are you thinking of proclaimed reserves with fences? Animals inside the proclaimed reserves are likely better protected compared to other areas which are proclaimed important conservation areas and are not fenced. That is, it is hard to implement speed limit compliance. Your are correct to bring this subject, with increase in vehicle volume such studies should equally be extended on areas outside protected areas?
It is very important work to do to protect the wildlife. This works help to identify the potential wildlife corridors and also suggest the remedial measure. However, the must be cover throughout the year and identify the the intensity of death in different animals in different months of the year. Again also need to find out the habitat in an around to which the animals are moving. Similar types of Study also conducted in Kaziranga national Parks of Assam by one of my scholar, but is to early to say anything to you, But I could sent few articles related to your study.
