I am new to Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA)(e.g. Ragin, 1987) as a technique and wondering how well it is suited for research on topics where only little / no prior theory exists? Based on recommendations on how to use the technique (e.g. Rihoux and Ragin, 2009), I wonder how much difficulties one would face in defining conditions and solving contradictory conditions when prior theory is not available?
