Dear Hamed Taherdoost* and Mitra Madanchian

I read your paper

Using PROMETHEE Method for Multi-Criteria Decision Making: Applications and Procedures

My comments:

1- In the abstract you say that PROMETHEE and ELECTRE use several iterations. I am not sure about this, because an iterative process, typical of Linear Programming, analyses alternatives aimed at improving a former result, and I do not remember that the methods you mention do that.

PROMETHEE, one of the most rational of existent MCDM methods is in my opinion, one of the best MCDM methods, and efficient also due to its GAIA graphic interface. However, I do not understand what you said about eliminating the scaling of the criteria, since considering criteria importance is always necessary, although in my opinion, this method should use objective weights instead of subjective.

2- I agree with you about the rationality of this method using transference functions, based on knowledge, experience and know-how, that are much more significant than using subjective, and thus, irrelevant, subjective weights. However, what you suggest in eliminating weights makes sense since they are somehow replaced by reasoned, researched and based on experience reference functions. Very interesting point indeed, because criteria importance may be measured by different manners.

If I may, I would suggest to contact Dr. Bertrand Mareschal (Université Libre de Bruxelles), who was one of the developers of PROMETHEE, and comment your idea with him.

3- In page 4 “Determining the weights are between the challenges decision-makers can face.”

Not if you use entropy derived weights

These are my comments

I hope they can help
