I 've found this site recently http://www.thermalfluidscentral.org/
It has an encyclopedia and even several free ebooks you can read online. These are mostly thermal engineering textbooks from respected professors. There are even some free (open access) peer reviewed Journals listed on this site and the associated editors are also names that are known in Thermal engineering research.
I would like to invite you to comment and to post other sites in this thread which you think are valuable resources of reasearch information.

Speaking of Wolfram Demonstrations project, there is one on the Carnot Cycle http://demonstrations.wolfram.com/CarnotCycleOnIdealGas/ and van der Waals real and ideal isotherms http://demonstrations.wolfram.com/VanDerWaalsIsothermsForRealAndIdealGases/, both is very useful in teaching basic thermodynamics

This is exergy calculator which automatically calculates the chemical exergy of any chemical compound. This will be useful for exergy based LCA
I am using http://www.thermofluids.net for my teaching. Useful and very user-friendly.

It provides calculation moduls for fluid properties but also for complete thermodynamic cycles
I even found an open-source simulation software that has similarity with ASPEN but I have not tested it yet. It has also a variety of possibilities to calculate thermodynamic properties. http://sourceforge.net/projects/dwsim/
