Think scientific research can play an enabler role to provide security (either through the means of defending, attacking or threatening etc.) depending on the wisdom of our world's leaders. Looks like they are playing an impactful chess game to human history & scientific research is just one of the pieces of the chess set. Other pieces might include political influence, economic power, technological prowess etc.

I will not like to use the definition of life cycle for the human universe. Scientific research may keep people busy to be superior to others. Using these innovations one day will be beyond the capacity of leaders.
Absolutely. Scientific research can play a major role in providing security, While technology enhancements to security systems (domestic community security as well as national security), scientific research arguably plays a larger roll in behavior analysis, helping us understand how and why we make decisions; identifying casual factors in our sense of insecurity; and helping us understand our rationale for security decisions. I believe that the scientific research done in those fields helps inform the discussion around security and our understanding about what motivates us in those areas.
