I am trying to model a two way undivided road in VISSIM for heterogeneous traffic in Indian context. What is the correct way to do so? Both direction traffic will be sharing same carriageway.

if the lanes are dedicated and physically separated, it is better to implement two different parallel roads.

No. the lanes are not physically separated. The traffic is non -lane based.
Which version of VISSIM are you using? As far as I know Its not possible to implemented mixed traffic scenario as vehicle types are predefined in VISSIM 8. IIT Bombay has developed simulation software based on SUMO for mixed traffic conditions.

I am using both VISSIM 9 and VISSIM 10.
I have read somewhere that we have to draw both direction links and provide an overtaking lane for them. Then overlap the overtaking lanes of both directions one over another. However, I don't know the exact process in details.
SiMTraM is the software developed by IIT B, but I cannot use it currently.

Yes. You have to double click on a link segment and check on 'Has overtaking lane' checkbox.
PTV has provided an example for this which you can located in the following directory.
