I am confused about the proper two-dimensional approximation of bar cropping process. The diameter of the bar is 30 mm so it is not thin enough to completely ignore the stresses in the z-direction. When considering plane strain condition, the body is not thick enough to completely ignore the strain in the z-direction. Plane strain approximation could be applicable, but it is doesn't seem to be proper.
Or is two-dimensional approximation not applicable to this type of problem? Refer to the pictures for clarity.

I am afraid that if the z direction stress can be neglected, you should not apply this model to the bar under those conditions.
Are you considering a plastic yield criterion?
I also recommend you to check the boundary conditions of your model, it is strange that in the left hand of your scheme the lower part has a perfect contact with the surface while the upper one deforms.

Regarding the boundary condition, I am sorry but the included 2D image is obtained from a different source and not from my result. It was supposed to just give a clear understanding of the problem at hand.

In my opinion approximation of the problem by means of two dimensional model is not possible to obtain good results comparable to three dimensional one, because the kinematic extortion is not axis-symmetrical as the bar.
