Triage and Teletriage: On-site triage is challenging, remote Teletriage is complicated and difficult. Both processes involve pattern recognition,  “a hallmark and cornerstone of clinical practice of emergency medicine” (and telephone triage) “that guides the timeliness of the disposition". "Triage requires that Emergency Medicine clinicians begin the process by: 1. recognizing patterns in the patient presentation related to levels of urgency 2. ascertaining the contextual impact of age, gender, ethnicity, communication & socioeconomic status  3. interpreting patient descriptions of symptoms” Standards for Emergency Medicine Physicians (2011) How then, can triage standards best inform teletriage practice and guideline function and design?
