Hi Vala.

Firstly I would try and dry the extract into a powder. These lets you control concentrations.

Next, what colour is the extract? If it is dark it may be causing interference. Try and dilute to a concentration whereby there is minimal interference. I would also suggest the use of colour blanks to help deal with colour interference.
