As for the point made by Steve Jobs, it's true that a good presenter doesn't necessarily need PowerPoint to deliver a compelling presentation. Visual aids can be helpful, but they're not mandatory, and what matters most is the presenter's ability to connect with the audience and convey the information in a clear and engaging way.
Steve Jobs needed to introduce new merchandise and he relied heavily on visual material to do that, even if he didn't use PowerPoint. If your presentation can be done without visuals, and you are an excellent speaker, then you probably don't need PowerPoint either. But in my experience, that combination is very rare among academic speakers.
