Dear all,
my daughter is currently working towards her international baccalaureate and is due to finish school in 2021. She is seriously considering a career in statistics, she loves mathematics. I wonder if those of you who have chosen and succeeded in the same path could give some advice on how to choose the appropriate course/university and what may help with an application. She is considering to go to university in Europe or Canada having dual German and Canadian citizenship.

Having followed a massive variation of the usual paths to a career in statistics I am perhaps not the best to answer such a question. However I would suggest the sites that Paul E. Spector recommends. I would also keep in mind that successfully understanding data is always the goal. Thus I would minor in some applied area such as a science(natural or social) or business. This would be a great help IMO because you get a good bit of experience in dealing with what understanding data means. I would also suggest that at least a masters degree is generally required for a successful practicing statistician. If your country's statistical association has a professional accreditation available, I strongly urge earning it. I have had a long and enjoyable association with statistics and can think of no better career for me. I wish you and your daughter all of the best, David Booth PS join your statistical association. As a statistician I feel it is great to have a carrier in Statistics. The key theme of statistics is understanding of data and interest to digdown into data set. Yes. I feel mathematics and Statics are correlated. Your daughter definitely enjoy it as she loves math. I will recommend that, she should learn the available statistical software for better u derstanding. May be a the book, Probability and Statistics for Engineers by Miller will help.
