Dear all,

I am studying a taxonomy and phylogenetic relationships within the Neotropical psyllids, and I would be very grateful to you if you could help me answering a very important question for my research.

According to the conducted phylogenetic analysis, I discovered a number of vicariant taxa among closely related psyllid species inside the same genus. Would you suggest that the vicariant events may reflect the formation of the Andes separating Chile and Peru from Central Argentina (40 million years ago)? Or it is not possible considering the time scale of Andes formation and psyllid speciation? Could insect species stay closely related (within the same genus) despite such a continual time period? Or is it possible that such speciation is linked to glaciation patterns? Do you think that an insect genus can survive during 50 million years?

Do you have any papers to suggest?

I would be very grateful if you could help me :)

Thank you very much in advance.

Best wishes,

Liliya
