Research Statement:

A study of the effectiveness of a non-drug therapeutic approach in treatment of persons with Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases & Disorders (CNCDs) through Life-Style Modification (LSM), Integrated Customized Yog Cure (CY Cure) & Overt Meditative Practices, in a private clinic of New Delhi.

Objectives:

1. To develop a Registry System of personal details, for persons with selected Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases & Disorders (CNCDs).

2. To assess and diagnose the study subjects with selected CNCDs based on the

parameters of Copy-Written Health Assessment Tool (CWHAT).

3. To administer an Integrated Customized Yog Cure (CY Cure) to treat the

study subjects with selected CNCDs with the following interventions --

a. Life-Style modification

b. Physical Postures with specific breathing techniques

c. Overt Meditative Practices

4. To assess the outcome of the interventions in terms of the ----

a. Variation in the health parameters based on which the diagnosis was made

b. Subjects’ symptoms experiences, ADL and wellness feeling, as perceived and reported by them

c. Changes in reports generated from other therapeutic systems as a reference points

5. To determine the subjects’ –

a. Perceived difficulties to practice the intervention

b. Perceived benefits by the intervention as reported by them

6. To compare the duration required for recovery and overall incurred expenditure by the subjects for taking health actions before starting the CY Cure and after undergoing the same

Operational Definitions:

1. Persons with Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases & Disorders (CNCDs): Individuals with Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases & Disorders (CNCDs), between the age group of 6-80 who attend the clinic voluntarily and follow the non-drug therapeutic approach on his/her own responsibility.

2. Non Drug Therapeutic Approach: A method of treating CNCDs without administering drugs. In this study it is a combined intervention including Life-Style Modification & Integrated Customized Yog Cure (CY Cure).

3. Chronic Non Communicable Diseases & Disorders (CNCDs): Non-infectious and chronic diseases disrupting the structure and function of the major body organs or mental abilities. In this study the selected CNCDs are diseases and disorders of Physiological Systems, diagnosed by a Copy-Written Health Assessment Tool (CWHAT).

4. Life Style Modification (LSM) – includes modification of food, drinking

water, sleep, fear, sexual life and use of intelligence, as measured by a

structured interview schedule.

5. Integrated Customized Yog Cure (CY Cure): includes Life Style Modification, Physical Postures with specific breathing techniques and Overt Meditative Practices. Each activity is developed step by step on the basis of standard yoga-related texts.

6. Overt Meditative Practices: Participant's responsibility

7. Expenditure incurred by the subjects for taking health actions before starting the CY Cure and after undergoing the same: Approximate Cost of whole treatment process in INR incurred by the study subjects.

8. Participatory Therapeutic Intervention: In this study, the patient with selected CNCDs actively participates in his/her health assessment, treatment decision making and determining efficacy of the intervention, in terms of perceived benefits and perceived difficulties, measured by a structured interview schedule used as a feed-back.
