I'm not a huge fan of the word "proof" used in scientific discourse. In mathematics, it is fine however. It's easy to prove "god exists" in mathematics, but it won't necessarily have much physical meaning. As an example, see Gödel's ontological proof.

Should science be discouraged from studying things that may justify the existence of a god? I don't think so. While it's certainly not the business of science to try to find a god, and most gods are unscientific in nature anyway, when it boils down to it, science should always go with the data leads. It should not be discouraged because it may weaken the importance of faith.

Science will not disprove religions, because religions is ideologies , the science do not deal with ideologies because it can not be refuted, see Karl Popper.

  If we summarize science in the hypothesis-experiment and empirical methods, then this science can not enter the unseen universe .

But if we accept the power of human thought and logical inference in the field of science, there are many rational arguments for proving the existence of God as the creator and controller of the universe.

In the Holy Tradition, God said:

 The one who calls me finds me

The one who found me knows me

The one who knows me will like me

The one who likes me, will loves me

Someone who loves me, I will love him too

  Worship is the ultimate degree of love for someone who knows him with all his traits
