The steel samples containing soft phases such as retained austenite are generally electro-polished with ethanol perchloric solution at - 40C temperature to remove deformed layer prior to XRD measurements. But most of the publications reports the retained austenite vol. % is at room temperature. As the sample has experienced the temperature of -40C during electropolishing, I have a doubt whether the reported retained austenite value is at room temperature or at -40C?
