I'm measuring the open circuit potential (OCP). Normally, authors using the size of sample were 1 cm2. However, OCP does not depend on the size of sample. Thus, what is the optimal size of sample to measure the open circuit potential? Is there any effect of sample size on the OCP value (assumed the measurement of magnesium alloys)?

Normally, the OCP does not depend onthe size ofyour working electrode, however, as the potentialthat you measuredepends on the activityofions inyour electrolyteand thus of the surface stateof yourworking electrode, the sizecan affect yourpotential valuesfor the simple reasonthat the more the surface ofthe working electrode, the more the difficulties to have the samesurface state and thereforethe same activity leading to different OCP values.
