NORT is the test for recognition memory based on the preference of rodents to explore new (novel) objects. For your 14 days study, you should do it only because repetition in the test could lead to habituation towards the novel object. If no option is there, keep at least one week gap, use entirely different objects).

You can add any other maze paradigm (Morris Water Maze, Radial arm, Zero Maze, etc.) for more supporting data.

Dear Amine Elbouzidi , NOR test can be repeated, but it is important to change the positions of the objects or, even better, to change objects. One week between one NOR and another is also recommendable. The main problem with NOR repetition is that rodents will explore progressively less during each new training session. Since the arena is always the same, if you do not keep a gap of one week between one NOR and a new one, even changing objects, mobility of the animals can become very scarce, making impossible to achieve an effective training. If you keep a one week interval and change objects, you can perform at least three repetitions, although some single animals will simply stop exploring during training and will hence need to be excluded from the test.

Hello Amine. As NOR test comprises of 2 days. On the first day, animals were allowed to explore two identical objects, while on the next day, one object is replaced with a novel object. In our 21 days of the protocol in the ICV-STZ rat model, we performed the NOR test on day 14-15 and Morris water maze on day 16-21 of the protocol. NOR test is not as stressful as MWM for animals. However, in a 14-day protocol, performing NOR only once should be sufficient. Moreover, to find out the effectiveness of treatment, it's suggested to perform the test on the last days of the treatment protocol. If there is no normal control group (without treatment), then it is advised to perform test before starting treatment and at the ending days of treatment. Other tests for evaluating memory, passive avoidance tests, radial arm maze test can also be performed. Good luck
