The Newtonian Doppler equations work differently depending on whether you run them backwards or forwards. Forwards there's an energy-loss that encourages exothermicity, creating an arrow of time:

Preprint The "arrow of time" under Newtonian physics

I've now been through a stack of papers and other writings on the "arrow of time" problem, and nobody seems to mention this.

Is there any previous research?
