Unit/chapter/course objectives and content remain the same but their delivery and evaluation inevitably change. Strategies for instruction are challenging many teachers as where once they were more facilitative, online tends, ironically, to make them more didactic/'traditional'. Interestingly evaluation is easier through chat/poll and online feedback mechanisms and can be in real time

Assessment of a student's academic work can be simple and reliable if a number of conditions are met:

- evaluate each task in academic hours (standard hours);

- do not divide the assessments, act on a yes / no basis (met / not met);

- to accumulate assessments with an accruing (current) total;

- to provide free online access for all students to the current ratings.

If someone finds this difficult or risky, then it is better to try.

For me to get students to do the tasks assigned to them, and not have other people do them. That's something you have to control.

Hi Wilmer, you are right to suggest that the security of assessment/evaluation can be a challenge when teaching online, but that can be a problem in face to face teaching as well, with all the essay mills available now for students to pay to have an essay written. But there are plagiarism checkers (eg Turnitin, https://www.turnitin.com/products/similarity - other systems are available) that can be linked to an online course where students submit all they write online through the system so the tutor can see the degree of similarity between the student’s work and other sources. If students are given an opportunity to check a draft of their work in the plagiarism checker before submitting it, they can be encouraged to learn from the results and improve their work, eg becoming better at paraphrasing or more accurate referencing. Or you could build in online activities that help you to get to know your students and set ‘authentic’ assignments that draw on their own experiences, which are more difficult for someone else to complete but also give the student more ownership over their work and maybe make them less inclined to cheat. Delivering lectures to large groups of students is not that effective. Maybe the use of small groups is more effective, mainly if you are using cases, and the responsibilities and roles are distributed among students. However, such a design is costly and could be challenging to implement. Difficult and challenging issues online are - examinations and assessment, mentoring and giving feedback, and lacking the opportunities to talk with students as we used to do on the campus.

Strategies or instruction

The most challenging element in online learning for students of all ages is engagement. If students are not effectively engaged in the learning activities, active in peer discussions, and applying learning to assignments, not only will they not do well in a course, but also will not have applicable learning skills to implement in current practices. Technology resources and understanding of how to use the learning software platform is also important.

It is hard to design and conduct lessons that are stimulating and interesting. Yes, they can have fun on Kahoot! and all but what certainty do I have as a teacher that they are actually engaging truthfully and not going to Google for answers? It is difficult to manage such because you cannot physically keep an eye on them. There are some "ghost students" who do not attend online classes but they just submit assignments.

Evaluation--it is a bit hard to completely eliminate coping when students do exams on their own

Content--does not have a problem once you understand the level of mastery of your students and expectations of the course

Chapters/objectives--this depends on the teacher-good teachers will aim at evaluation and synthesis taxonomy level because they are achievable even in hybrid learning

I liked the online learning, except that there was no-one to help with tech issues. It's the elephant in the room, software doesn't work as well as people pretend it does.

In remote learning, the most challenging aspect is level & extent of compliance with the curriculum
