In order to conduct a specific high cycle fatigue test, what should be the limiting criterion for number of high cycle fatigue test samples? i have gone through a number of papers but unable to find the number of samples used to construct a S-N curve, only mention of stress ratio or frequency but the number of samples one should have atleast is still not there
Dear Mr. Waqar,
You may find required info for modified staircase methods for testing limited numbers of samples on internet. There is not a specific number of samples required, but more test means more accurate results.
As you know, you need at least three stress values for obtaining a curve. And If you have very limited number of samples, i. e. not more than 10, you may choose three different loading values depending on strength test results with three repeated tests for each. I think, it would be enough for a basic comparison.
