"Spillover theory", or the description of how one entity's characteristics affect or spillover into another entity comes alive in Peter Donkor's essay, linked above.

Donkor argues that a democratic political sphere in a country can encourage the democratization of that same country's social sphere.

The idea is that as peoples gain experience with democracy by voting, deliberating, participating, rebelling, etc., it is not a far leap for them to question why their workplace, school, or family, for example, isn't democratic as such.
