Innovation in the classroom often stems from the knowledge and inspiration that teachers gain through ongoing learning.
I agree that teachers' continuous professional development supports students' learning and success because it allows teachers to engage in social learning themselves by listening to other more experienced colleagues and adopting and adapting successful strategies (Vrieling et al., 2016). CPD is a time and space where teachers' can be reflective practitioners, considering what has worked and what needs to be engaged in (Shah, 2022) and developing their subject knowledge and subject pedagogic knowledge (Mapulanga, 2024). But also, the last decade has seen developments in technology which necessitate that teachers adapt their lessons to engage with the challenges of AI and what this means for assessment and development of navigational skills.
Having said that, students' success is also linked to many other factors including teachers' expectations, teachers' emotional engagement with students and genuine interest in transforming young people's lives and teachers' respect of their young voices and what they bring to the classroom in terms of their own backgrounds. This is when "value added" success truly develops.

When faced with a topic, the teacher prepares four activities for each learning style found in the classroom, enabling critical thinking, communication, and creativity. The teacher serves as a support and guidance point for students, allowing them to learn from their students as well.
