Recently taxonomic publications may appear on the Publisher's website before the official date indicated for every journal issue on the Publisher's website. What date has the priority in case of synonymization of two species?
Current version of the ICZN, Article 21.8.3. Some works are accessible online in preliminary versions before the publication date of the final version. Such advance electronic access does not advance the date of publication of a work, as preliminary versions are not published (Article 9.9).
Which means that the availability date for the species binomen (publication date) is the official date of the publication, not the "on-line early" date.
My colleagues in ZIN RAS (most of them are taxonomists) share the opinion of Olexander. , which strongly supported by the ICZN, Article 21.8.3 . However, Pablo opinion has some reason as well if some formalities are fulfilled (DOI, page numbersfinal ). I agree with Olexandr. Thank you Pablo for your opinion.
