Has anyone had success with tamoxifen (or 4-hydroxytamoxifen) inducible Cre drivers in the rat? We heard of cases where rats were killed with high doses Tmx (>100 mg/kg). Even at 20 mg/kg we noticed slight weight loss but they live. This is one question.
The related question is how well do inducible RAT Cre drivers work? I was in China recently and had a colleague inform me that 0/10 inducible Cre rats worked. Uggh!
Of note, we generated an inducible rat Cre line in a manner IDENTICAL to a mouse (where the mouse Cre works just swell). We could not detect Cre mRNA or protein in the rat tissue we expect it to be in. This too is an enigma.
It seems the literature is scant with rat Cre publications. Perhaps there are reasons similar to above?
Any comments/experiences are appreciated.
Thank you!
Joe
