Tailgate setting arrangement plot. From the plot, it is noticeable that with the opening of the tailgate, water level increases. how is this possible?

Could it be that the gate runs upwards? The higher the gate setting, the stronger the backwater effect. In the image it is not reported as openning, or depth.
