Literature about symbiosis acknowledge a genetically "loss of traits" is typical of symbiosis "evolution". (eg: genome reduction, gene loss) What can we say about physiological "loss of traits" ?

In a system where the genetic changes are yet unknown, I am interested in physiological adaptation that may help the evolution of a de-novo symbiosis (either parasitic or mutualistic) toward a stable one. I give an exemple: consider a host (harbouring many symbiotic) that have reduced, or total loss of certain enzymatic functions, when compared to its non-symbiotic ancestor.

what can we say of it? will that help the symbiosis to be maintained and thus, its evolution?

of course I got some answers but I want to know your opinion?
