Difficult question... But first of all how do you define supply chain and how do you connect Block and Supply chain? I think I understand how you think but try to contextualise the question, then it might be easier to answer..but I think in general: We dont know much about the future, just look how people in the 1950s views the future that is now our present...did it turn out the way the predicted? Not really :-) I think block chain is a hot topic right now but who knows about tomorrow.. I have been a business consultant for 20 years, I own a logistics/transport company and I seen trends come and go and people screaming at the top of their lungs that this is the future and then a few years later no one even remembers what they screamed about so my answer to your question is a generic one...no one knows...the future is up for grabs :-)
The technology of BlockChain is not efficient enough. In my opinion, the computational performance of BlockChain transactions should be improved. Otherwise, it is really difficult to be applied in some worldwide supply chain networks.
I agree with Henrik G.S. Arvidsson that we first need to define supply chain. On top of that we need to define blockchain. Are we talking about public and permissionless solutions or private and permissioned ones? Big difference. Many nuances exist. At the end of the day, I strongly believe that decentralized databases will have some impact on value networks, but the extent of that remains to be seen.
