Is grounded theory suitable approach or phenomology?

In mixed methods, what is known as a sequential explanatory design begins with collecting quantitative data, and then follow-ups with qualitative research to help you understand and extend the quantitative results.

To set-up the focus groups for this purpose, you could use what is known as a "funnel" design. This begins with broad, open-ended questions that let you hear the participants' perspective on your topic. Then it moves into narrower questions that are based on your own specific interests (such as hearing more about the results from your quantitative data).

The two suitable research methods which are suitable for your case would be conducting an interview because you will get many answers from different people and you can use them for your findings and discussed them easier. Quantitive research is suitable for your paper in this case too because you need to use some statistical info.

For adequate statistical data, you might need a larger sample than you can obtain for a project with a limited budget.

I would suggest you start with the focus group discussion with a mixed group of people (e.g. student, instructors, and some professionals within that field). Your focus group discussion needs to be structured and guided by some specific questions (e.g. to finalize your questions, read the relevant literature on your focusing issue and come up with 4-5 concrete questions to extract the indicators/variables you running after). To me, the interview and focus group give you the same, however, to a different extent.

FGD would give you a quite lot of indicators/variables to work on. Then try to formulate a comprehensive questionnaire (most with close-ended and few of them open-ended) to analyze the context quantitatively. Of course, focus on your hypothesis and you might have many external and internal factors and how it is influencing. It all depends on the extent of the work. Good luck.

Including FGDs you could apply the photovoice method for the study. by this technique, participants are asked to express their points of view or represent their communities by photographing scenes that will highlight in your research themes.
