Is there anyone who has information in regards to ELISA analysis done on crocodilians? Looking to assess parasite load and immune response in crocs, but I can only find one article who's tried this semi-successfully.
Is there a other/better way to measure immune response, or the lack of, in crocodiles in response to parasite load?

Hi Joe! In my lab we are studying the immune response of snakes during the adaptation to captivity. We are measuring oxidative burst, phagocytosis and lymphocyte proliferation from blood isolated leukocytes by flow cytometry. Our article is about to come out soon, hopefully, but I can say your best bet is to check out the articles from turtle studies, which are more advanced on this analysis than any of us. I am sorry to say but it will be pratically impossible to attemp any protocol using antibodies (ELISA, immunophenotyping) since there are virtually no antibody for reptiles and the information on possible crossreativities using antibodies directed to mammalian or avian protein is VERY scarce. Unless you would be interested in analyzing hormones, such as corticosterone, this is possible by ELISA and we are doing for snakes. Text me inbox if you would like to collaborate more on this. Hi Dr. Al-Salhie, unfortunately your link shows an equipment that is called "Crocodile" ( the commercial name of the instrument is crocodile, a device to pipette, wash and incubate plates only). However, Berthold technologies does not sell ELISA assays directed to crocodilian proteins, just as nobody else does for reptiles. Believe me, I searched everywhere for antibodies against snake proteins.
