I am in the process of developing a new scale and have tested 128 items on 130 participants. Each item measures both the frequency (0 = never; 4 = very often) and the impact (0 = not at all bothered; 4 = extremely bothered) of potentially negative events that happen in clinical settings (e.g., "My therapist made assumptions about me based on my race or ethnicity"). My sample size seems too small for a factor analysis, but I would like to be able to use the data I've collected to reduce the item pool before I do further testing. What strategies would you recommend?
