Planning a dissertation on Silphidae species richness and abundance and need to suggests stats I may use. I seem to be struggling with abundance. I'll be looking at 2 large woodland sites of roughly the same size, 2 small of the same size. Baited pitfall trapping will be used. Definitions of abundance seem to change. Some studies count is as simply the quantity of each species and I have to admit that's what I thought it was. Some sources say it's calculated by dividing the number of species from one group by the total number of species from all groups. That makes sense, but not sure if I need to do a stats test for it. My best guess would be the non-parametric equivalent of the t-test to compare the means for individuals. Thoughts?
